Profiles by background

Marketing founder

Strong: positioning, content, audience, campaigns, storytelling Likely gaps: legal and admin, finance and margins, operations, technical setup Path: Use marketing to validate demand fast, but set up finance, legal, analytics, and fulfillment early so the business isn't all attention and no engine.

Sales founder

Strong: talking to customers, closing, follow-up, relationships Likely gaps: brand and content, systems, analytics, long-term operations Path: Use sales to get early revenue, then turn what works in conversations into website copy, scripts, SOPs, and a repeatable way to get customers.

Finance founder

Strong: pricing, margins, budgets, risk, forecasting Likely gaps: emotional selling, creative marketing, speed of experimentation Path: Use finance to make the business sustainable, but force fast market tests so the model isn't perfect only in a spreadsheet.

Operations founder

Strong: systems, fulfillment, vendors, quality control, consistency Likely gaps: demand generation, sales, storytelling, messy early action Path: Build a reliable delivery engine, but put marketing and sales reps first. Don't overbuild internal systems before anyone is buying.

Technical founder

Strong: websites, automation, analytics setup, product building Likely gaps: sales, customer discovery, messaging, pricing, shipping before it's perfect Path: Move fast, but get customer proof before building deep.

Creative or product founder

Strong: taste, brand, product experience, differentiation Likely gaps: numbers, sales, operations, admin, repeatability Path: Make the offer desirable, then add sales, finance, and operations so it becomes a business and not just a beautiful product.

Learn, outsource, or automate

For every gap, pick one:

  • Learn it if it's core to how the business wins
  • Outsource it if it's specialized and occasional, like legal filings or tax returns
  • Hand it to AI if it's repetitive and checkable, like first drafts, research, and SOPs
